Day 1: Let's talk about poverty. Living on One Dollar a day video.
Day 2: Basic Banking and Basic Budgeting: Thank you to VanCity for their visit to our classroom! Students compared fees for saving accounts at various banks and credit unions. Are you getting a good deal?
Day 3: We went over the test. Income: What do you think your income will be in the future? Do the Career Cluster Interest Survey in your booklets to identify your top 3 career clusters. Go to Work BC and look up a job title in one of your career clusters. What is the median annual salary and median hourly wage for the job?
Day 4: Percent of a Number and Income Sources: We did the first page in the new booklet. We talked about sources of income for teens. (Videos included this and this.)
Homework: Complete in "I Want to Be a Millionaire" booklets: "I will become a millionaire" page, Sources of Income page, Money Money page.
Day 5: Making and Saving Money. We went over p. 211-213 (complete for homework) in your 2nd booklet. Homework: Print a picture of a luxury item that you would like to save up for, with the price.
Day 6: Simple Interest: How much will your money grow?! (pages 208-209) in 2nd booklet. Homework: How long would it take to earn enough money to buy your luxury item (using your income from the Money, Money page)? How long in years? In months? in days?
QUIZ next class: calculating savings, earnings, interest + basic banking.
Day 7: Bank Statements: We did p. 219 together. Homework: p. 220-223 in Booklet 2. Do Financial Goals page in Millionaire booklet.
Day 8: Monthly Budget vs. Actual Monthly Budget (booklet 3), p. 226-229 (omit #13).
Day 9: Planning events using a Budget: p. 229-230 #13, 14, 15. For 14, you may choose an activity you'd like to do instead of go-carting, e.g., going to Playland, the Aquarium, laser tag, etc. Also do Budget Tracker sheet in Millionaire booklet.
Day 10: Review Day. Want to be a millionaire? Start investing NOW! Check out these videos on compound interest and the 2 friends. Homework: finish review questions.
